Alaska Cruises & Cruisetours

Consider cruising through the pristine waters of Alaska and explore the state's unparalleled beauty and wildlife. You will cruise past glaciers, through majestic fjords and visit locales such as Glacier Bay, the Inside Passage and Hubbard Bay. With luck, you'll experience Alaska's rich wildlife of brown bears, black bears, bald eagles, whales and sea otters. Disembark and explore the historic towns of Anchorage, Ketchikan, Juneau, Seward, Sitka and Skagway.

The popularity of Alaskan cruises & cruise tours has surged in recent years. The demand for Alaska benefits all types of cruisers by supplying a wide range of itineraries -- many of which are roundtrip Vancouver or Seattle.

Alaska cruises are divided into three groups: Inside Passage, Gulf of Alaska and cruise tours. Inside passage cruises are generally roundtrip sailings from Vancouver or Seattle and go as far north as Juneau. Gulf of Alaska cruises are generally 1 way cruises that spend a lot more time cruising the majestic fjords and glacier bays. Cruise tours are another popular form of exploring Alaska both at sea and on land. Itineraries range anywhere from 10-20 days and allow a glimpse into the raw wilderness of our north.

Things to Know:

Alaska cruise season is early May to the end of September

Denali National Park is a very popular land excursion

Pre-packaged Alaskan holidays are available from Vancouver

Vancouver departures, and some Seattle departures travel B.C.’s inside passage, which is one of the most scenic parts of the itinerary, and often where you see the most whales.

If you are in love with eagles, you may wish to see the raptor center in Sitka, if that is a port on your itinerary.

The White Pass & Yukon Route Railway shore excursions in Skagway tends to sell out quickly – purchase this in advance of embarkation if you can.

Alaska is huge, as is the Yukon.  If this is your only trip to this area, it’s worth your time to get off the ship and do a cruise tour that gets into the land.

Not every cruise line goes to Alaska, and some have more access to Glacier Bay than others.  If that is important to you, make sure it is on your itinerary.

Dining with the Captain
Here is a tip for those who would like to dine with the captain of the ship. The waiters look for couples who are non-smokers, enjoying themselves, do not curse, and do not drink heavily.

Spotlight on Fuerte Amador
This week, we thought it would be fun to take a look at Fuerte Amador, a popular port just outside of Panama City. Fuerte Amador is a man-made peninsula, connecting four small islands to the mainland on the Pacific.
